Seven Dresden artists in Coventry: ‘DRESDEN Exchange’ exhibition at the Lanchester Gallery, Coventry University. March 2 to April 30, 2015.
The exhibition included Talks and forums. Meet the Artists, talk by professor Juliet Simpson FRSA ‘Crossing Borders in German Art: Nation and Identity at Fin de Siéclé. Talk by Paul Reece Dresden: Birth Place of Expressionism, artistic Reform and Counter Culture. And ‘What Next? A call to all Coventry artists to discuss further developments of Coventry/Dresden Arts Exchange. The next project planned, an exhibition during the Elbhangfest 2016 themed in Great Britain under the motto ‘Come together’ at the Orangery at Pillnitz Palace.
Whilst in Coventry the Dresden artists had a full itinerary, visiting artists studios and discussing their work and the ‘Exchange’, they had a special tour of the Cathedral and were shown work from the Cathedral archives by Dianne Morris (art historian). As well as visiting the Herbert Art Gallery and having an historical tour of Coventry, the Dresden artists visited the new development of Fargo Village, the opening of Coventry University’s Drawing Prize, at the Lewis a Gallery Rugby School, Rugby and they toured the Coventry School of Art and Design. They were also taken to Birmingham, City Museum and the Ikon Gallery, some even visited Oxford and London during their stay.
Coventry/Dresden Arts Exchange was the recipient of a Arts Council Grant to develop Coventry/Dresden Art Exchange into an Unincorporated Association.
